Tamiko Lyle lives in Kelowna, British Columbia, and came to Mayo Clinic in late February to seek answers to medical problems that had bothered her for several years.
In explaining why she came to Mayo Clinic, Tamiko said she reached a point where she was “sick of being sick” and needed to get definitive answers.
“Up until my Mayo appointments, some of my Canadian doctors said I had lupus, while others thought I had Behcet’s disease,” Tamiko explained. “I get so nauseated that I throw up and sometimes cannot work for two-week periods. I’ve been waiting for gastroenterology and hematology appointments for consultation in Canada since November, and even today have not gotten a call yet with an appointment date.”
“Now I know for sure that I have both lupus and Behcet’s, which I understand makes me one of only three patients in Mayo history documented to have both. And I have recommendations for treatment to take home to my Canadian doctors, who have worked with and interacted with my Mayo doctors.”
In the video below, Tamiko reflects on her experience at Mayo Clinic on the last day of her seven-day series of appointments:

last dec. I drank homemade colloidal silver not knowing I had a sinus infection, I was told it was really good for you. I now have argyrosis and am sure the infection went into the bone in my head. I have tried and tried to tell the many Doctors I have been to and none will listen, most haven’t even heard of colloidal silver. I have been round and round trying to get help. I’ve tried to tell them I need an IV anti-biotic drip but their all scared I will get C-difficle so have been throwing all sorts of antibiotics at me. My eyes can’t stand bright lights, are swollen almost shut. Have pretty much given up. Am very dizzy and off balance. Am so tired and worn out and can’t go on. My head is all plugged up, can’t stand loud noises, my nose is plugged and am using dristan just to keep breathing, there’s many more side effects like a heaviness at the back of my neck. Have had to wear sun-glasses to even watch T.V. the sun out drives me crazy. I just want to tell this in hopes it might help some-one to not be as stupid as I have been. Not to listen to others. I’m afraid it’s too late for me. phone number 250 445-2210 The infection was left there following a root canal on my eye-tooth.
i would love to find a site where other adults suffer from the night terors/ sleep walking . i have received no help from the medical community in canada,
Here is the link to our Connect site: http://www.mayoclinic.org/connect/?rss-feedid=22 You can join this site and start discussions with others who have similar issues.
I am glad you were able to get help. I am not so fortunate. I tried and failed to get an appointment at Mayo Clinic. I have an unspecified autoimmune disorder, possible palindromic rheumatoid arthritis. I am tired of being unwell, tired of being on a high dose of prednisone for most of the past two years and have been unable to get to see a rheumatologist or get a diagnosis.
I finally have an appointment with a rheumatologist in Canada in late April but had hoped to get to the Mayo earlier. I was refused an appointment at the Mayo Clinic because I don’t have a diagnosis!
