Scott Hennen, a radio talk show host from Fargo, ND, had surgery at Mayo Clinic yesterday to remove his colon, which had developed several sites with precancerous cells related to his ulcerative colitis, which was first diagnosed in 1997.
Scott had previously described his reasons for being public about his medical condition in this post. In the video below, he offers more background on his medical history and why he came to Mayo Clinic for his operation:

Dear Scott
My name is Victoria Lee, 2yrs ago I was given 1 month to live as a result of Fistulating Crohns colitis, with odds of less than 4% I amazingly survived against the odds, a Pan Proctocolectomy which has left me with a permanent ilieostomy. I just wanted to say hang on in there, life will get better now, being pain free and not losing blood every day is fantastic, just living like a normal person and socialising again is wonderful. I always thought having a bag would be the end, it isn’t it’s the beginning of a healthier happier you. I went on to design a range of beachwear which could be worn by Ostomy patients and the general public, and patented a clip in belt device which fits inside the swimwear, it is a social enterprise with the profits being re invested into a respite holiday house for patients, we hope to come over to The American Ostomy show in Nevada in August, and are busy fundraising for that. We commenced trading last week and I still have to pinch myself to believe it, from an idea drawn on an envelope, to sharing the catwalk at Moda with Calvin Kline, Red or Dead & Ted Baker, dreams really do come true, and I’m developing a new hypoallergenic stoma bag, lucky me was allergic to all the bags, typical me !!! So hang on in there Scott, just now it will all be new, but beieve me this is the first day of the rest of a much better life. I hope you make a speedy recovery, and if we get out to the States we get the opportunity meet you,the website is http://www.glitterbeach.co.uk, the company of course is called Glitter Beach. Hope you didn’t mind a strange wee Scots woman contacting you to wish you well, just wanted you to know things will get better, everyday I look at my husband, son and grandchildren and realise how lucky and blessed I am.
Kind Regards
Victoria Lee
Best to you Scott! Still looking and of course sounding Great. I’ll keep you and your family in my prayers.
Love,
The Laur
