Richard is a patient from the Twin Cities in Minnesota. An articulate speaker with a keen eye for detail, he recounts a couple of happenings he has witnessed around the Mayo Clinic campus. These accounts certainly illustrate Mayo’s mission that the “needs of the patient come first”.

  1. I am in total agreement about the level and care and concern at Mayo is tremendous!! I have been doctoring at Mayo for 3 years after my local doctor would not address my issues with my knee prothesis. Mayo Clinic saved my leg and my life! We are from Northwest Iowa and numerous times we have arrived for appointments and if there was an appointment late in the day the change the appointment to an earlier time so we are able to make the trip home that day. Also I have had my doctor call me with concerns about what was going on with my health and told me he needed to see me right away. One time he was leaving town the in 2 days for a week and he said I must have the procedure before he left. I went to Mayo the next day and he fit my unexpected surgery into his schedule and came to my room the next morning at 5:30 am to check on my before he caught his early flight. I also have arrived and have been in surgery within 2 hours. Where else can you have such amazing and caring medical care!! From the parking attendants, the person cleaning the room, transport teams, nurses, technicians and doctors, they are all truely remarkable caring and compassionate individuals that work as a team!! They have the it right and I hope other medical facilities can follow in their footsteps!
