Apr 4, 2019 · Slaying the Dragon of Pancreatic Cancer

I had spindle-cell liposarcoma. After four surgeries, my oncology team at Mayo discovered a tumor deep inside my pelvis. So deep, in fact, that my oncologist found it difficult to find a surgeon who would perform the operation. I was getting the feeling that this tumor was not operable. That's when I met Dr. Truty; the surgeon that told me he could go in and remove it. It took Dr. Truty eight hours of surgery just to get where he needed to be and another three to four hours to remove it and close my abdomen. The cancer has not returned there, and it's six years ago today!
