The Mayo Clinic is amazing and the people that work there are wonderful. I am so please to hear about positive stories like this. I hope she continues to do well. My brother was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis in January of 2012. He was a wounded vet and was being treated at the VA in Minneapolis. Initially, he was going to have a lung transplant at the VA in Madison, WI. As he weakened during the delay, the Madison facility changed their mind and said he was too weak for the procedure. A nurse in Madison said they did not wish to risk their “high 5 year survival rate” with w patient that had weakened. We tried to get him to the Mayo where they would do all they could, but he passed away before we could arrange a transfer. If they had been honest upfront, he would have gone to the Mayo Clinic soon er and would have a good chance at being alive and relatively healthy today.
